About the Artist
(1950)
Hector Villalobos was born in Santiago, Chile, in 1950, and studied in Santiago and Lima, Peru, eventually setting in Venezuela.

Earlier works were inspired by the humid tropical forests of Venezuela, “seen from within the dense tangle of their foliage but painted in increasingly less descriptive and less representative ways. “

Over time, his works became more abstract, and by 1990 his output had “strip (ped) away the formal and chromatic exuberance of his previous works. They are severe, rigorous, energetic, expressive. And oof very good quality.” (Peran Erminy, Galeria Cinco).

Villalobos has had numerous solo and group exhibitions since the early 1970s in galleries throughout Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Ecuador, and in Florida, U.S. , including Art Miami in 1993.

Group exhibitions include Galeria Viernes and Promociones Boreas, Lima , Peru; Museo de Arte, Guayaquil, Ecuador; Centro de Arte ,Galeria Fidel Angulo and Galeria Praxis, Santiago, Chile; Galeria Durban, Galeria Cinco, Galeria Felix, 1 ° Salon de Artes Visuales and Salon Metro, Caracas, Venezuela; Art Miami, Miami, Florida; Bienal Nacional (Museo de Bellas Artes, Museo de la Rinconada, Caracas, Venezuela).

Solo exhibitions include Galeria Viernes, Lima, Peru; Galeria Fidel Angulo, Santiago, Chile; Galeria Durban, Venezuela (Caracas, Barquisimeto and Maracaibo); Instituto de Cooperacion Iberoamericano de Venezuela, Sala CANTV, Galeria Cinco, and Galeria Bass, Caracas, Venezuela.
