Israfel (The Burning One), is known as the Trumpet Angel in Islam. Along with Mikhail, Gabriel and Izrail, he is one of four Islamic archangels. In the Judeo-Christian tradition the archangel Raphael is the counterpart of Israfil. The excellent figure displays the strong Hindu sculptural tradition extant in Goa, as well as the intermingling of Hindu, Islamic and Christian traditions.
