A Mudejar style cased escritorio or papelera from Madrid, Spain offered in the original finish replete with period iron hardware. This work is a visual testament to the Baroque period in Spain, with abundant and lavish use of heavy 22 karat gold and ivory embellishments. This papelera contains seven drawers and one center cabinet that reveals three interior drawers, all with original hardware and locks. The lavishly carved piece features drawer panels with central geometric clusters that rest under salomonica columns; some of these design details are built up with gesso and carved. The arched central door panel opens onto three hidden drawers.
