We have seen very long and wide kilims from the Gashgai peoples before but not a hand knotted pile carpet of this size. These are almost always commissioned works for important celebrations such as weddings or visiting dignitaries. It is interesting to note the carpet is dated in the upper white corner pieces. It is dated 1332, which converts to 1914 in the Christian calendar.
The deep navy blue field is a perfect background color for the boteh that are arranged diagonally in perfectly balance by colors used. The field is scattered with small floral elements, birds, ewers, and single knows of color.
The border is also a deep navy blue that displays perfectly a serrated leaf with vines in a rich yellow gold color. The guard borders display carnations with scrolling vines on a rust red field.
