About the Artist
While biographical records are sparse, Bernarch was a 20th-century Mexican artist primarily known for his contribution to the "Neo-Naive" or primitive school of Mexican folk art, and worked within the same aesthetic circle as Agapito Labios (1898–1996). He was most prolific during the mid-20th century, specifically the 1940s and 1950s.

The style sought to reclaim the charm of 19th-century provincial portraits, characterized by flat perspectives, stiff frontal poses, and idealized, doll-like features in children.
