Region: Mexico
This trunk is typical of 18th century Mexican container furniture. It is constructed of wood set on a separate wooden base. It is entirely clad in leather, a material often used in the absence of sufficient metal. The trunk is heavily decorated overall in ornamental brass nails forming crowns, medallions, crosses, decorative S-curves, and the name of the presumed original owner.
