About the Artist
(1956)

Raye has a BA in Ceramics and an MFA in Painting, and taught perspective drawing, color theory, artistic anatomy, and painting for over 35 years (Smithsonian, the University of Maryland, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center). Concurrently, she worked as a set designer and painter in the DC opera and theater scene.
A decades-long thrall with the illusion of three dimensions lured Raye from sculpture to two-dimensional work, and to the current series of abstracted and sculptural drawings of the expansive landscapes and turbulent skies of New Mexico. The choice of monochromatic palette affords an even greater sense of volume and depth, as well as a layer of emotional and meditative content.
