This is a stunning Spanish Colonial tortoiseshell and mother of pearl enconchado document case. The wood foundation is overlaid with tortoiseshell inlaid with mother of pearl foliate scrollwork inhabited by animals and birds, the front panel with silver lockplate wrought with two rampant lions, silver hasp, flanked by two double headed mother of pearl eagles, the back further decorated with a double headed eagle amidst scrollwork.
