Sculpture, painted wood
Region: Southern Germany
"Noli me tangere", means "touch me not", or "don't step on me", is the Latin version of words spoken, according to John 20:17 by Jesus to Mary Magdalene when she recognized him after his resurrection. It refers to the fact of Christ's imminent ascension, and that he no longer inhabited an earthly body. This exquisite sculpture from Germany features richly detailed anatomy and sorrowful, expressive facial features.
