About the Artist
A group of bultos by this anonymous santero (active 1840-1870) share a style that is reminiscent of the early carvers. These carvings, mostly crucifixes, have many features reflecting the influence the major santeros had on this carver. It is thought they were created early, because for the most part they are painted with water-based pigments, as bultos made before enamel paints became available in the area.
