This painting is in the manner of Luis Tristan (1587-1624) and Titian (1485-1576). A highly sophisticated painter from Mexico influenced by Spanish and Italian artists of the High Renaissance such as Luis Tristan and Titian. The painting depicts Christ carrying the cross on the road to Calvary. The scene is described in all four Gospels of the New Testament and the image is often depicted in the images of the 14 Stations of the Cross.
